Tikka Consulting - Expert IT Solutions

Optical Transceivers & SFPs

Tikka Consulting supplies a wide range of optical transceivers and SFPs for enterprise, data centre, and service provider networks across Australia. Whether you need standard SFP modules, high-speed QSFP28 optics, or DWDM coloured optics, our optical transceivers and SFPs cover Ethernet and Fibre Channel applications for server access, campus uplinks, SAN connectivity, and leaf-spine data centre fabrics.

Every transceiver we supply is built to Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) standards and tested for interoperability with leading switch, router, and storage platforms, including Cisco, Brocade, Arista, Juniper, and Dell. This vendor-compatible approach lets you scale or refresh your network without being locked into costly OEM-branded optics, while maintaining full monitoring and diagnostics (DDM) support.

Our range includes SFP (1G), SFP+ (10G), SFP28 (25G), QSFP (40G), QSFP28 (100G), and QSFP-DD (400G/800G) form factors, available in SR, LR, ER, and ZR variants, plus DWDM coloured optics for IP-over-DWDM designs. Whether you're extending reach across a metro ring, building a backbone link, or connecting storage in a mission-critical SAN, our team can help you select the right optical transceiver for the job.

Why choose Tikka Consulting for transceivers and SFPs

  • Vendor-compatible optics tested against major switch, router and SAN platforms
  • Full range from 1G to 800G, including SFP, SFP+, SFP28, QSFP, QSFP28 and QSFP-DD
  • DWDM and coherent optics for metro, DCI and long-haul backbone applications
  • AES-256 Layer 1 optical encryption available on selected coherent QSFP-DD transceivers
  • Rigorous optical, electrical and thermal testing for reliable, long-life performance
  • Local Australian and New Zealand support, with fast turnaround on quotes and orders
  • Typical savings of 20–50% versus branded OEM optics, without compromising quality
  • European manufacturing partners with strong supply chain transparency and compliance

Beyond hardware, our consultants can map compatible optical transceivers and SFPs to your existing bill of materials, simplify sparing across a multi-vendor network, and plan your migration path from 10G and 40G through to 100G, 400G and 800G. If you also need to expand fibre capacity, we supply DWDM open line systems for data centre interconnect and metro applications, delivering scalable 100G-800G capacity over existing fibre without a full network overhaul. This pairs well with our broader IT services, including infrastructure and network implementation and support.

What's the difference between SFP, SFP+, QSFP28 and QSFP-DD?

SFP supports 1G, SFP+ supports 10G, QSFP28 supports 100G (4x25G), and QSFP-DD supports 400G or 800G by doubling the lane count and electrical density. The right choice depends on your switch ports and required bandwidth.

Will third-party SFPs work in my Cisco, Arista, Juniper or Brocade switch?

In most cases, yes. Tikka Consulting supplies MSA-compliant, vendor-coded SFPs tested for compatibility with Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Brocade and Dell platforms, retaining full DDM support. See our SFP compatibility guide for platform-specific details.

What are DWDM SFPs and when should I use them?

DWDM SFPs transmit on precise ITU-T grid wavelengths, allowing 40+ signals over a single fibre pair via a passive multiplexer. They're ideal for metro rings, data centre interconnects and long-haul links where fibre is scarce or costly to lease. See our DWDM SFP selection guide for more detail.

How much can I save using vendor-compatible optics instead of OEM-branded modules?

Typical savings are 20-50% versus branded OEM optics, without compromising quality. All modules are MSA-compliant, individually tested, and backed by local Australian and New Zealand support.
